CLASSICAL GUITAR CAPOS

D’Addario classical guitar capos let you change keys with delicate precision. Choose any capo that suits your instrument, like the artist Classical capo, Tri-Action, or Cradle capo, and make changing keys a breeze.

What is the difference between a classical guitar capo and an acoustic guitar capo?

There may be slight differences in capos designed for a classical guitar, compared to those designed for acoustic or electric guitar. Since the main difference between classical guitars and others is the fretboard radius, capos made for classical guitars may feature a straighter or flatter arm. However, if a capo intended for an electric or acoustic is wide enough, you can likely use it on a classical guitar as well. However, it’s best to choose a classical capo with micrometer tension adjustment to be sure you dial in the correct pressure on the nylon strings.

What Type of Capo is Best for Your Classical Guitar?

Most classical guitar capos function similarly—they apply tension to the strings across the fretboard. Since they all do a similar thing, one single capo can work on multiple classical guitars. You can also use different capos on the same classical guitar. Yet, there are slight differences in how different capos are designed. These differences are good to know, so you can feel confident in picking the right capo for your guitar and your playing.

Trigger Capos

The D’Addario Artist Classical Capo is a trigger capo, which works well on classical guitar. Designed specifically for classical guitars and instruments with flat (non-radiused) fretboards, the Artist Classical Capo utilizes patented trigger geometry, reducing the force required to open and close the capo while applying even tension regardless of neck profile.

Screw Capos

Screw capos feature a small dial which adjusts how much tension is placed on the neck of your classical guitar. The D'Addario Classical Pro Capo is a screw capo designed specifically for use on classical guitars. The patented micrometer adjustment mechanism allows the player to dial in the exact tension needed for clear ringing notes without excessive force in any position on the neck. This greatly reduces the need to retune your guitar during and after capo use and helps deliver exceptional intonation. Also, you’ll barely notice a screw capo, which can lend a cleaner style, often aligned with classical playing.
