Coated Drumheads
EVANS makes many styles of drumheads to many different specifications. Aside from size and plies, maybe the biggest choice EVANS players have is between coated and uncoated heads. Generally, coating damps the vibration of the drumhead’s film, creating a warmer tone and reducing some of the high frequencies. Depending on your style, these characteristics can be pretty useful.
Uncoated Drumheads
All EVANS drumheads start life uncoated. For most of our heads, that means they’re made from clear or colored, opaque film. If no coating is applied, they’ll stay as just that. Our clear, single-ply batter heads, such as G1 and G12 Clear, are the most lively and bright products in the EVANS portfolio. Coating them will add certain benefits, while making them slightly less bright.
Standard Coating
Our standard coating is applied to the top side of uncoated drumheads. The coating functionally inhibits the vibration of the head, creating a warmer tone and reducing some of the top-end frequencies. The variety of coatings we offer include white, frosted, and strata, which are used across various models within our portfolio. EVANS’ proprietary coating material and process ensures the coating is evenly applied across the surface of the drumhead for perfect consistency and enhanced durability compared to other drumhead brands.
UV Coating
Our patented UV coating is the most durable coating available. This UV-cured coating is slightly thinner compared to our standard spray coat, allowing the head to vibrate a bit more in comparison. The result is a tone that is a cross between an uncoated and spray-coated drumhead—with the enhanced texture benefits of a coated head, making it perfect for brushwork.
