ABOUT FRANK CATALANO
Frank Catalano is a renowned saxophonist who tours all over the world with his band and performs regularly at the Green Mill in Chicago and Birdland in New York. Frank's 2016 album "Bye, Bye, Blackbird" debuted at #1 on the Billboard Jazz Charts. Frank has recently recorded with David Sanborn, Jimmy Chamberlin of Smashing Pumpkins, Randy Brecker, Fareed Haque, Stanton Moore, Mike Clark of Herbie Hancock's Headhunters, Paul Wertico of Pat Metheny Group and can often be seen jamming with The Violent Femmes, Les Claypool, Galactic, New Master Sounds, Seal, and Tony Bennett. Frank has also recorded with R&B stars John Legend and Beyoncé. Frank started playing the saxophone at age 8 and began being mentored by Von Freeman by age 11. In the 1990's, Frank and Von completed a 2 Tenor Recording for Delmark records and performed at numerous Jazz Festivals.
It was during this time that Frank had the opportunity to perform with Miles Davis, Charles Earland, Ira Sullivan, Junior Wells, Curtis Mayfield, Elvin Jones, Barrett Deems, James Moody, Johnny "Hammond Smith," Dr. Lonnie Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Tommy Flanagan, Louie Bellson, Willie Pickens, Larry Novak, Robert Shy of Rolank Kirk's band and many other jazz legends, all prior to graduating from DePaul University in 1999. An active and passionate teacher and clinician, Frank teaches over 40 clinics a year and is a patented inventor with numerous awards to his credit including a Grammy and an IMA Award. Frank has recorded for the Columbia, Blue Note, Warner Bros, Delmark and Ropeadope Labels. Frank is currently the Celebrity Endorser for Drambuie Scotch and can be seen in their advertising campaigns. In 2019 the "Catalano Sidecar" was named after Frank and trademarked and is available at hundreds of jazz clubs and restaurants worldwide.
