ABOUT MARK NUCCIO


Critics have praised clarinetist Mark Nuccio for his solo, orchestral, and chamber appearances, describing him as "the evening's highlight", full of "mystery and insight" and "shaping his phrases beautifully with a rich, expressive tone." (NY Times) Mr. Nuccio was appointed Principal Clarinet with the Houston Symphony Orchestra in the Fall of 2016 after serving seventeen years as Associate Principal and Solo Eb Clarinet (1999-2016) with the New York Philharmonic. He currently serves as on the clarinet faculty at both Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and the University of Houston's Moore School of Music. During his tenure with the New York Philharmonic, Nuccio served as Acting Principal Clarinet with the Philharmonic for four years from 2009-2013. Prior to his service with the Philharmonic, he held positions with orchestras in Pittsburgh, Denver, Savannah, and Florida working with distinguished conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur, Mariss Jansons, Zubin Mehta, Erich Leinsdorf, Bernard Haitink, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly, André Previn, Christoph von Dohnányi, and Gustavo Dudamel. Mr. Nuccio has toured extensively with the New York Philharmonic and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in numerous countries, recorded with both orchestras, and performed regularly with the Philharmonic on the award-winning series, Live from Lincoln Center, broadcast on PBS. Some past highlights include the Philharmonic's historic and newsworthy visits to North Korea as well as Vietnam. An active solo and chamber musician, Mr. Nuccio has been the featured soloist with orchestras throughout the United States and Europe, and he has performed on the famed stages of Carnegie Hall, the 92nd Street Y, and Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall. Mr. Nuccio has also been a featured performer and guest artist in many of the country's most prominent summer music festivals. Other notable activities are his participation on multiple movie soundtracks, television commercials, as well as music for the Super Bowl and the famous golf tournament, The Master's. Beyond his active performing schedule, Mr. Nuccio is a dedicated teacher committed to training the next generation of musicians, and he is an avid bicyclist and golfer. Nuccio is a D'Addario Woodwinds Advising Artist & Clinician and a Performing Artist and Clinician for Buffet Music Group.
